It's A Tidbit Tuesday

Tidbit Tuesday First from the Imperial War Museum comes "The Ministry of Food" website where there is shown a clickable 'Allotment and Garden Guide No. 1' that used to be available during the war. There is a comment below the photos stating that the full set of guides can now be purchased as a hardback book, I haven't had a look yet but plan to!
On that same page is the video below, there are quite a few historical videos on YouTube if you search around a bit. I could spend hours watching them, as I've said before I'm fascinated by this period in time - all history in general, but the WWII Home Front captures my full attention every time.
Along that same vein, is this the article, of the 7th of January this year, from the BBC asking "Should We Bring Back Rationing?" There was quite some discussion going on about whether or not this would be feasible and/or helpful in today's world last summer, and the comments here I found quite interesting. Personally I don't feel it would ever be accepted (without definite need) by today's citizens - which isn't to say that it wouldn't be beneficial on quite a few levels. And could you imagine people of today being fined (as some were during rationing) for wasting food?! The governments could tap into a gold mine there today, at least until people smartened up - quickly when ££'s are involved, no doubt - and stopped the waste.
Next is a gold mine of Crock-Pot (slow cooker) recipes at My Crockpot Recipes. I did spend a little time going through the site and was quite impressed. There are literally hundreds of recipes here for all types of dishes so I've bookmarked it for future reference. *If you need help converting some of the measurements used, try Gourmet Sleuth - Convert Me or Epicurean*
The next link is a bit of a techie one, but very important to anyone who spends any time online on sites for which you have to 'register'. Lifehacker is a great site for all sorts of helpful information, not all of it is "tech" and a bit ago they ran an article on the 5 Best Password Managers. The one I use is in the list (star on my chart for the week!) as well as a couple I've used in the past. I don't know how anyone can exist online without one of these great programs! It may be simple to use the same password and/or login details for all websites you visit, but it is not safe - if anyone gets a hold of your password for one site, they then have them all, and there are hackers out there who have nothing better to do than try and get yours. Sad, but true!
And last- the best reason in the world for shopping on your own comes from Magic Mummy over at The Diary of a Frugal Family. I think Mortified says it all. LOL

Jennie- It's very interesting and amazing how much of it would still apply today. I'm most interested in the natural 'remedies' and figure if they worked then they should at least be worth a try now :-)
